AgCAAD Explorer provides suitability assessments for 140 crops using Alberta's long-term climate normals (1981–2010), crop physiology data, and soil information. It is not a prediction of crop yield or farm profitability. Suitability is assessed for dryland (non-irrigated) agriculture only, within Alberta.

Crop physiology data come from published literature. Climate normals come from the Alberta Climate Information Service (ACIS). Soil data come from the Agricultural Region of Alberta Soil Inventory Database (AGRASID) and Soil Landscapes of Canada (SLC).

The assessment considers heat, moisture, growing season, soil texture, soil pH, and drainage. Actual production depends on grower decisions, input costs and logistics—including fertilizer, irrigation, and transportation—as well as market access and economics. This tool is provided without warranty. The model developer accepts no responsibility or liability for decisions or outcomes arising from its use. Users apply this information at their own risk.
